Winnie Garrison Gilliam
Winnie Evans Garrison Gilliam, 89, of Appomattox, died Saturday, October 4, 2014, in Appomattox Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was the wife of the late James Henry Garrison, Sr. and the late Wilson Gilliam.

Born in Prince Edward County, Va., on November 30, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Lizzie Meadows and Joseph Cephus Evans. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church and retired as a cafeteria manager for J. J. Fray Elementary School in Rustburg.

She is survived by two sons, James H. Garrison, Jr. and wife, Jean, and R. Stanley Garrison and wife, Gloria all of Appomattox; five grandchildren, Timmy Garrison and wife, Laura of Concord, Shelley Ebbs and husband, Rodney of Spout Spring, Rick Garrison and wife, Cyndi of Pamplin, Melinda Totty and husband, Troy of Appomattox, and Greg Garrison and wife, Bethany of Concord; nine great-grandchildren, Susan Arrington and husband, Dan, Jessica Ebbs, Ashley Ebbs, Hunter Ebbs, Madison Totty, Kaylee Garrison, Savannah Totty, Ethan Garrison, and Sage Garrison; and two great-great-granddaughters, Addison and Autumn Arrington.

She was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.

The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home, Sunday, October 5, from 4:00 – 5:30 p.m.

A graveside funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 6, 2014, at Centenary United Methodist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Russell Cheatham.
