Obituary

Martha Winifred Harvey Martin, 94, died Monday, March 31, 2008 in Farmville at the Woodland-Moore Center. She was the wife of the late Charles Sidney Martin, Sr.
Born in Appomattox County, August 3, 1913, she was a daughter of the late Lytton and Etta Martin Harvey. Winnie graduated from Appomattox High School in 1931, and retired from the Country Store/Book Store at the Appomattox Historical Park in 1987. She was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church, the Cross and Flame Circle of the United Methodist Women, and the Wesley Fellowship Sunday School class. She was a charter member of the County Line Home Demonstration Club.
Winifred a devoted wife, a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother is survived by two children, Nancy M. Dickerson and her husband, Raymond of Pamplin; Charles S. Martin and his wife, Ann of Richmond; four grandchildren, Keith Dickerson and his wife, Tracy of Glen Allen, Brian Dickerson and his wife, Tanya of Appomattox, Elizabeth (Beth) M. Fisher of Roanoke, and Andrew C. Martin and his wife, Susan of Wake Forest, NC; nine great grandchildren, Amanda, Austin, Aidan, Haley Dickerson, Kayli McCullough, Gracie and Sydney Fisher, Graydon and Alexander Martin; a brother, Wilmer Lathan Harvey and his wife, Paige; a sister, Birdie Z. Harvey all of Appomattox; a special niece, Mary Lou Harvey; a special great nephew, Hunter Jones and several other nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents she was predeceased by four brothers, John C. Harvey, Edgar W. (Ed) Harvey, Howlett Thomas (H. T.) Harvey and Leon Harvey and a sister, Rachel Harvey Jones.
The family expresses sincere thanks to the nursing staff and caregivers to Winnie over the past six years at The Woodland, Brookview, and in the last eight weeks at The Moore Center. We the family will always be grateful for their care, concern and support.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 3, 2008 at Mount Comfort United Methodist Church, the church of her childhood. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Bruce Johnson with burial following in the J. W. C. Martin Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home Wednesday from 6:30 -8:00 p.m. and other times at the home of Nancy and Raymond Dickerson.
