William (Billy) Samuel Wood, 93, of Rock Hill, SC and formerly of Appomattox, died Wednesday, March 16, 2011. He was the husband of the late Inez DeJarnette Wood.

Born in Campbell County, on October 9, 1917, he was a son of the late Lorraine Cawthorne and William Floyd Wood. Billy was a member of Liberty Baptist Church and proudly served his country during WW II as a member of the U.S. Army stationed in Scotland, Italy, Africa and England.

He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Margaret Anne and John Paul Lollis of Rock Hill, SC; a brother and sister-in-law, George Daniel and Gracie Gregory Wood of Fredrick, MD; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Mary Frances Nicholas of Warsaw, VA, Evelyn Loraine Wood of Appomattox, and Emily Christine and Philip Gates Thorne of Heathsville, VA; four grandchildren, William Paul Lollis of Greenville, SC, Jonathan Alexander Lollis, Matthew Forrest Lollis both of Rock Hill, SC, Elizabeth Joy O'Connell and her husband, Kevin of Oxford, CT; one great grandson, Jackson Ryan O'Connell.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm, Saturday, March 19, 2011, in the Chapel of Robinson Funeral Home by the Rev. Rusty Small. Burial will follow in Liberty Cemetery with military rites accorded by the combined Honor Guards of American Legion Post #104 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #9855.

The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home on Saturday from 1:00 pm until time of the service.
