William Lloyd Vaughan, Sr., 85, of Oakleigh Ave., Appomattox, died Tuesday, December 14, 2010, in the Appomattox Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Victoria, VA, on July 2, 1925, he was the son of the late Luther and Lelia Wilkes Vaughan. Lloyd was a member of Liberty Baptist Church and retired from the Farmville Herald. He was the former owner of the Times-Virginian and the Appomattox Office Supply. He served in the US Navy during WW II, was a member and past-president of the Appomattox Lion's Club, and a member of the American Legion Post #104.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sarah Comer Vaughan; a son, William Lloyd (Bill) Vaughan, Jr. of Appomattox; three grandchildren, Michael, Tyler, Katie Vaughan, Greensboro, NC; one brother, Franklin Vaughan and his wife, Virginia, of Lynchburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, James, Edwin, and Sterling Vaughan and a sister, Estelle Vaughan Lewis.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 17, 2010, at Liberty Baptist Church by the Rev. Rusty Small. Burial will follow in Liberty Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010, at Robinson Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
