William McDonald "Bill" McGrath, III, 77 of Gobbler Hill Lane, Appomattox, died Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at his residence.
Born in St. Augustine, Fla., on June 10, 1939, he was a son of the late Margaret Cason and William McDonald McGrath, Jr. He was a graduate of Augusta Military Academy and retired from Phillip Morris. Bill was a member of Monroe Masonic Lodge #301 A. F. & A.M. and the Christian Motorcycle Association. He loved NASCAR, flying planes, and his beloved dogs.
He is survived by his four daughters, Dana Mayberry and husband, Steve of Appomattox, Kimberly Mays and husband, Danny of Concord, Paige Drinkard and husband, Steven of Appomattox, Va., and Lara Weiss and husband, Michael of Agoura Hills, Calif.; ten grandchildren, Patrick and Tate Mayberry, Phillip Harmsen, Taylor Richardson, Cole, Jillian, and Ross Drinkard, Wil, Erille, and Braedy Weiss; a great-granddaughter, Reagan; a sister, Mary Jane Stone of Manteo, N. C.; and nieces and nephews, Curt Stone and Jennifer, Travis Stone, Lloyd Stone and Lori Ann, John F. Stone, and Sheila Raye Stone and daughter, Tajmana. He is also survived by Doris T. McGrath, three step-grandchildren, Joseph Morales, Sara Morales, and Alva Tate, and a lifelong friend, Barnes Townsend and wife, Bertha.
He was preceded in death by a son, William M. McGrath, IV and a brother-in-law, Bobby R. Stone.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m., Friday, April 7, 2017, at Robinson Funeral Home followed by a brief visitation. The family will receive friends other times at Longacre Bed and Breakfast.
