Obituary

William Daniel Hix III, 94, Hixburg Rd, Pamplin passed away on Friday, March 28, 2025, at his residence with family gathered around him. He was the husband of the late Glenna Oliver Hix for 63 years.

Born on March 16, 1931, in Hixburg, he was the son of the late Wilson Hix and Ruth Harwood Hix. William loved his church, Elon Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, financial officer, member of the choir, and sang bass with the Elon Men's Quartet. He enjoyed music, watching westerns and sports, and sitting on the front porch waving at everyone who passed by. He loved his dog Spot who was his daily companion.

William was a graduate of Pamplin High School. After graduating, he spent his entire life working on the family farm. He was a true farmer who loved the dairy, the land, and the crops that it made for his family. He loved all the family working together at Hix Brother's General Store. William was a loving husband, Daddy, Papa, Brother, Brother-in-law, uncle, and friend to so many. He cherished his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren so very much, and was always so encouraging and proud of each one.

He is survived by four children, Jane Hix of Lynchburg, Danny Hix and wife, Debbie of Hixburg, Cynthia Smith and husband, Nathan of Appomattox, and Mary Beth Rolfe and husband, Dan of Weyers Cave; eight grandchildren, Will Hix and wife, Lindsey, Tom Smith, Phillip Smith, Hailey Crouse, Holden Crouse, Stephanie Tyree, Samantha Stratton and husband, John, and Susan Tyree; six great-grandchildren, Walker Smith, Anniston Hix, Sawyer Hix, and Arabella, Colter, and Emersyn Stratton; brother, Harwood Hix of Georgia; and sister-in-law, Florence Hix of Hixburg.

He was preceded in death by brother, John and J. Tom Hix; and sister, Ruth Hix.

The family would like to thank his caregivers, Lakeisha, Bessie, Amy, and Jennifer for their kind and loving care of William.

A funeral service will be held 11am, Monday, March 31, 2025, at Elon Baptist Church with Rev. John Campbell and Jeremy Lakes officiating. Burial will follow in Walker's Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Hixburg.

The family will receive friends from 4-6pm, Sunday, March 30, 2025, at Robinson Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
