Appomattox: The Reverend Mister William Kenneth Hayes, 77, of Ethel Street, died Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at his residence. He was twice married his first wife was the late Patricia Ann Young Hayes and his second wife is Jane C. Hayes.
Born in Malden, Massachusetts, March 25, 1928, he was a son of the late William James Hayes and Winnifred Hamilton Hayes. The Rev. Hayes was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church and a retired ordained Deacon within the Catholic community for 22 years. Bill fondly served his country in the US Navy. He was a member and former Commander and treasurer for American Legion Post #104, a member of Evergreen Ruritan and the Golden Circle of Evergreen Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, Jane, he is survived by three daughters, Joanne Hayes of Appomattox, Noreen A. Murray and her husband, Patrick of Pamplin and Rachel A. Kolb of Appomattox; three sons, William G. Hayes and his wife, Deborah of Rochester, NY, Kenneth G. Hayes of Toms River, NJ, and Michael E. Hayes of Maryville, TN; two brothers, Robert Hayes of Leesville, VA and Edward Hayes and his wife, Margaret of Stoneham, Mass; 20 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; step-children, Brian Low and his wife, Lisa of Old Bridge, NJ, Rhonda J. Goad and her husband, Michael of Hillsville, VA, Colleen H. Runyan and her husband, Steven of Dublin, PA, and Sherri D. Demmer and her husband, Kevin of Manalapan, NJ and numerous nieces and nephew.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Kathleen Hayes and Mary Ellen Hayes; two sons, Daniel Hayes and Carl Matthew Hayes and a sister, Gloria Hayes.
A Burial of Christian Mass will be held 12 noon, Saturday, January 14, 2006 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church by the Rev. James Gallager, the Rev. Robert McElleney and Msr. Kenneth Rush. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Military rites accorded by American Legion Post #104.
The family will receive friends Friday at Robinson Funeral Home from 7-8:30 pm, at the church Saturday at 11:00 am until time of service, and following the service at the American Legion Post #104, Oakleigh Ave.
