William Clyde Ellis, Sr.,96, of Concord, died Monday July 7, 2014 in Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the loving husband of the late Mildred Lorraine Spicer Ellis for 67 years.
Born in Hardy, VA, December 31, 1917, he was a son of the late John Hubert Ellis and Annie Bell Morgan Ellis. William was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church. He retired from Woodall and Lang Roofing as a supervisor.
He is survived by a son, William Clyde (Chuck) Ellis, Jr., of Lynchburg; two daughters, Sandra Ellis Deal and husband, Carl, of Maiden, N.C., Jane Ellis Cochran and husband T.C., of Lynchburg; one brother, Kenneth Darnell Ellis and wife Mary of Lynchburg; two sisters, May Ellis Martin of Hardy, Marie Ellis Blackwelder and husband Jim of Bedford; nine grandchildren; numerous great and great-great grandchildren; and a son-in-law, Thomas James Parsons of Concord.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Rita Susan Ellis and Priscilla Dawn Parsons; two grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; seven brothers and two sisters.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday July 9, 2014 in Liberty Cemetery by the Rev. Dan Dibble.
The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home from 1:00-1:45 p.m. prior to the service.
