William Thomas Cook

William Thomas, “Tommy” Cook, 78, of Appomattox, VA, passed away Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the loving husband of Dianne Smith Cook.

Born in Farmville, VA, on July 9, 1948, he was the son of the late Maude Lee Childrey and Arlin A. Cook. Tommy was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. He worked as a truck driver for 43 years. Tommy loved to golf, hunt and fish, enjoyed watching baseball, and was a jokester.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, William Dwayne Cook of Concord and Terry Wayne Cook of Appomattox; two sisters, Mary Ann Cronk of Farmville and Sharon Caldwell and husband, Kent of Crewe; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Jerry Layne Cook; one brother, Larry Lee Cook; one daughter-n-law, Diana Elmore Cook; and mother-in-law, Margaret Steele.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at Friendship Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Sam Snyder and Dr. Ron Rumburg.
