William "Bill" Donald Barnes, 80, of Little Dogwood Road, Spout Spring, died Friday, September 14, 2018 at Lynchburg General Hospital.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Violet Martin Barnes; a brother, Peter Barnes and wife, Connie; a sister, Susan B. Knight and husband, David; and sisters-in-law, Sally Barnes, Virginia S. Martin, and June Taylor and her husband, Albert. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and a special great-great-nephew.
Born in Erie, Pa., on September 5, 1938, he was a son of the late Jayne Hooper and Charles L. Barnes, Sr. He attended Salem United Methodist Church and Evergreen United Methodist Church and served in the US Army from 1961 to 1963. Bill graduated from Harbor Creek High School in Erie, Pa. and attended Penn State University at State College. He went to work for ITT and retired after 40 years of service with Verizon.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles L. Barnes, Jr.
The family express their gratitude to his caregivers, Libby Christian and Angela Broadwater.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, September 17, 2018, at Robinson Funeral Home by the Rev. James Martin. Burial will follow in Spout Spring Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 4 until 6 p.m. and other times at the residence.
