Obituary

Warren E. Taylor, Jr, 72 of Woodlawn Trail, Appomattox, passed away, Saturday January 30, 2016 at his residence. He was the loving husband of Judy Reaves Taylor for 50 years.

Born in Durham, NC, September 19, 1943 he was a son of the late Janet Overton and Warren E. Taylor, Sr. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. Warren began working for the Virginia Division of Forestry in 1968 as a County Forester for Appomattox County. He joined Virginia Fiber in 1978 and retired in 2008. Warren started volunteering at the Appomattox Court House National Historical Park giving talks called "Why Here." He enjoyed woodworking most of his life from the experience and teaching of his father while building the family home. He always tried to excel in whatever he did.

Warren lived his faith in Jesus; people had no doubt he was a child of God. He had five things on his life list and accomplished all five before he battled cancer for the final time. He thought humor was necessary to life and shared it with everyone.

In addition to his wife he is survived by two children, Leigh Ann Morgan and husband, Jack of Appomattox and Warren E. Taylor, III and wife, Mary Catherine of South Boston; one sister, Sandra Morey and husband, Dean of Chesapeake, VA; two brothers, Marvin Taylor and wife, DeeDee of Portsmouth, VA and Marshall Taylor of Nebo, NC; four grandchildren, Virginia Hamlett, Taylor Hamlett, Holly Taylor and Amanda Harris; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Judy H. Taylor.

A Celebration of Life will be held 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at New Hope Baptist Church with his nephew, Rev. Greg English, officiating. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall following the service.

A private burial will be held at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers please consider New Hope Baptist Lighters Relay for Life team c/o Betty Craft 1234 Wildway Road, Appomattox, VA 24522. He was a big supporter and participant in relays to raise money to fight cancer.
