Walter Thomas "W.T." Mayo, Jr., 69, of David's Creek Lane, Appomattox, died at his residence Saturday afternoon January 5, 2013. He was the husband of Linda Bryant Mayo.
Born in Lynchburg on October 30, 1943, W.T. was a son of the late Elizabeth Garbee and Walter Thomas "Tommy" Mayo, Sr. He was a member of Monroe United Methodist Church, a retired sheet metal fabricator for Buffalo Air Handling and had served his country as a member of the U.S. Army.
W.T. was a handy-man, loved children and animals, never met a stranger and was always ready and willing to roll up his sleeves and help anyone.
In addition to his wife, Linda, he is survived by son, Michael Thomas Mayo and his wife, Amy of Lynchburg; a step-daughter, Tanya Cummings and her husband, Brad of Richmond; a brother, Kenneth Shearer Mayo and his wife, Susan of Lynchburg; three grandchildren, Sarah Mayo, Kennon and Blakely Cummings; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Lloyd and Becky Bryant of Appomattox; his aunt, Nookie Mayo and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held 3:30 pm, Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at Robinson Funeral Home by the Rev. Tom Jones. Burial will follow in New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery with military rites accorded by American Legion Post #104 and V.F.W. #9855 combined honor guard.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 8 from 6:00 to7:30 P.M. and other times at the home of Lloyd and Becky Bryant, 398 David's Creek Lane.
