Obituary
Walter Elmo Smith, 75, of Forbes Rd, Appomattox, died February 22, 2011. He was the husband of the late Hazel Thomas Smith.
Born in Appomattox County, on October 1, 1935, he was a son of the late Alexander and Frances Godsey Smith. Elmo was a lifetime member of Hollywood Baptist Church and retried from the Virginia Division of Forestry.
He is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Lloyd Alex and Joyce Smith of Lynchburg and Melvin Jackson and Betty Smith of Milford, Ohio; two foster sisters, Mattie Franklin of Appomattox and Annie Goin of Lynchburg and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Lee, Louis, and Howard Smith.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 26, 2011, in Hollywood Baptist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Robert Phillips. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be made to Hollywood Baptist Church, c/o Mr. & Mrs. David Austin, 6564 Hollywood Rd., Appomattox, VA 24522 or the charity of your choice.
