Walter Edward Shelton, 64, of 2623 Cub Creek Road, went to be with our Lord and Savior, Tuesday June 12, 2007. He was the husband of 30 years to Virginia Thornhill Shelton.
Born March 21, 1943, he was a son of the late Walter and Edith Shelton Dixon Shelton. Walter was a member of Rocks Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. He served his country in the Army Reserves for six years. Walter began his career with the Virginia Department of Transportation as a Highway Construction Inspector Trainee in September of 1964 and retired as a Transportation Construction Inspector, Senior in April of 1995, all of which was with the Appomattox residency. After his retirement he continued to work on VDOT projects as a Consultant Inspector.
In addition to his wife, he was survived by a son, Howard "Andy" Anderson, and his wife Gina, of Tucson, AZ; a daughter, Berri Anderson Rice, and her husband Randall, of Forest; three sisters, Vadie Elder and her husband Lewis, of Spout Spring, Rose Richardson, and her husband Otis, and Erma Woody, and her husband Bill, all of Pamplin; five grandchildren, Cole, Casey, and Cori Anderson; Jared and Laina Rice.
He was preceded in death by a brother Donald Dixon.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Tuesday June 19, 2007, in Rocks Baptist Church with the Rev. Carlton Smith and the Rev. Anthony Reeves officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home, from 7:00 to 8:30 PM, Monday night, and other times at the residence.
