Obituary

Wilmer Lathan Harvey of Appomattox beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather passed away September 22, 2008. Born in Appomattox County, October 17, 1921, Mr. Harvey was the son of Lytton and Etta Martin Harvey.
Lathan proudly served his country during WWII in the United States Navy as a chief gunners mate aboard the U.S.S. Yorktown CV-10. He worked for the C&O Railroad for 15 years and retired from Westvaco after 22 years of service. After retirement he worked part-time for Cardinal Chevrolet in Appomattox. He was a member of Mount Comfort United Methodist Church, Appomattox and the American Legion Post #104.
He is survived by his loving wife, Paige Tatum Harvey; son, William L. Harvey and wife, Rita of Lebanon, PA; grandson, Senior Airman William Marshall Harvey and wife, Anita; great granddaughter, Cadence Rose Harvey all of Eglin Air Force Base, FL; step-grandson, B. Kyle Martin of Appomattox; sister, Birdie Harvey of Appomattox and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two sisters and four brothers.
The Harvey family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. John L. MacNeill, Dr. Thomas Nygaard and Dr. Scott Wade for their compassion and kindness to Lathan and his family. They would also like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Lynchburg General Hospital and Carol Unroe, R.N. of Gentiva.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am, Wednesday, September 24, 2008 at Robinson Funeral Home by the Rev. Robert Thorne. Interment will follow in Liberty Cemetery with military rites accorded by American Legion Post #104 and V.F.W. #9855 combined honor guard.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today (Tuesday) from 7-9:00 pm and other times at the residence.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorials contributions be sent to the American Legion Post #104, Building Fund, PO Box 584, Appomattox, VA 24522.
