William Anderson (Bill) Tolbert, Sr., 82, of Thomas Jefferson Hwy., Pamplin, died Monday, September 30, 2013 at his residence. He was the husband of the late Catherine (JoAnn) Justice Tolbert for 53 years.
Born in Appomattox County, June 25, 1931, he was a son of the late Mazie Goin and Emmitt Edward Tolbert, Sr. He was a veteran of the US Marine Corps and retired as an operator for the gas pipeline.
He is survived by three sons, Joseph Tolbert of Pamplin, Kenneth Tolbert and wife, Becky of Appomattox, and Gary Tolbert, Sr. and wife, Sandra of Pamplin; nine grandchildren, Cathy T. and Doug King, Valerie Marie Tolbert, Michael and Tiffany Campbell, Mary Lou Tolbert and fiancé, Joey Woody, Thomas and Kelly Tolbert, Nicholas Tolbert, Gary Tolbert, Jr., Kendal Tolbert, and Teresa Tolbert; eight great-grandchildren, Jonathan King, Blake Jamerson, Christopher Tolbert, Jacob Jamerson, Collin Cash, Brycen Campbell, Karleigh Moon, and Jaxcen Campbell ; four brothers, Daniel Tolbert of Wheaton, MD, James (PeeWee) Tolbert of Victor, NY, H. Ray Tolbert of Arrington, and Emmitt Tolbert, Jr. of Madison Heights; and six sisters, Alice Baldwin of Pamplin, Ruth Woods of Spout Spring, Anna Belle Weaver of Pamplin, Loretta (Sugarfoot) Tolbert of Phenix, Barbara Ann Tolbert and Georgia Stern both of Lynchburg.
He was preceded in death by two sons, John Edward (Johnny) Tolbert and William A. (Billy) Tolbert, Jr.; five brothers, Bob, Tom, and Jack Tolbert, Iva George Sadler, and Homer Harmon and two sisters, Betty Smith and Gracie Barksdale.
The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home Wednesday from 7-8:30 p.m.
Graveside funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 3, 2013, in Pamplin Cemetery by the Rev. Steve Tyree.
