William Aubrey Elder, 89, of Madisonville, died Friday, April 20, 2012, in Carilion Roanoke Memorial. He was the husband of Edna Mae Trent Elder who preceded him in death after 59 years of marriage.

Born in Madisonville, VA, on November 11, 1922, he was a son of the late Ollie Mae Garrison and Samuel Oliver Elder, Sr. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church and a retired employee of Burlington Industries. Aubrey was a US Navy veteran serving in World War II.

He is survived by four children, Betty E. Conner and husband, Grover of Roanoke and their children, Brent, Ryan, and Jasper; David Elder and wife, Jamie of Jacksonville, FL and their children, Ashton and Alexa; Dennis Elder and wife, Patty of Sayville, NY and their children, Mollie, Amber, Susan, and Thomas; and Kent Elder and wife Lisa of Bayonne, NJ and their children, Jeremy, Joshua, Jessica, and Matt; and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Samuel Oliver Elder, Jr.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday, April 23, 2012, in Centenary United Methodist Church by the Rev. Herndon Jeffreys. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home, Appomattox, Sunday, from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.
