Vivian Wooldridge Caldwell Melton, 84, of Confederate Ave., died Wednesday, November 7, 2007 at her residence. She was the wife of Clarence B. Melton and the late John Curtis Caldwell, Sr.
Born in Appomattox County, March 23, 1923, she was the daughter of the late James (Jim) Ernest and Emma Jennings Wooldridge. Vivian was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband she is survived by four step-children, Judy M. Davis of Rustburg, Clarence B. (C. B.) and his wife, Gwen Melton of Lynchburg; J. C. (Jack) Caldwell, Jr. and his wife, Barbara of Appomattox and William (Bill) Harwood Caldwell and his wife, Pamela of Richmond; a brother, John Lawson Wooldridge and his wife, Katherine of Appomattox; eleven step-grandchildren, Stephanie Owens, Eve Brison, Stirling Owens, Charity Melton, Caleb Melton, Tara and Todd Eagle, John R. and Nancy Caldwell, Rev. William R. and Karen Caldwell, Christopher D. and Louise Caldwell, Jeffrey P. Caldwell, and Anne C. and Jeff Watts; a nephew, Gary and Joan Wooldridge of Forest; two nieces, Cindy Guill of Spout Spring and Suzanne and Mike Mitchell of Appomattox; a god-child, April Honig; and numerous great nieces, nephews and step-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Rosa Mae W. Abbitt and Hazel W. Guill; a nephew, James (Jimmy) L. Wooldridge and a step-grandson, Josh Melton.
A graveside funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 10, 2007 in Liberty Cemetery by Dr. Rick Ewing and the Rev. Rick Caldwell.
The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home Friday from 7-8:30 pm and other times at the home of Suzanne and Mike Mitchell, 363 Ethel St., Appomattox
