Virginia Maxwell Elder Davenport, 82, of Gum Branch Road, Appomattox, died Friday, May 10, 2019, at Lynchburg General Hospital with her family by her side. She was the wife of the late Kenneth Aubrey Elder and Walter Woodson Davenport.
Born in Hixburg, Va., on May 6, 1937, she was a daughter of the late Lucille Ramsey and Graydon C. Maxwell. Virginia had a strong faith in Jesus Christ and was a member of Jordan Baptist Church of Lynchburg and also attended Friendship Baptist Church.
She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn E. and Michael Martin of Appomattox, Linda E. and Randy Townsend of Clarksville, and Audrey E. and Terry Booth of Appomattox; six grandchildren, Melissa Martin, Shane Martin (Sherry), Joseph Martin, Smitty Rice, Kade Booth, and Madi Booth; four great-grandchildren, Lilly, Jayden, Lyric, and Dylan; a sister, Mary Layne of Charlotte C.H.; five brothers, Wilbur Maxwell (Dot) of Pageland, S.C., Douglas Maxwell (JoAnn) of Saxe, Thomas Maxwell (Lin), Robert Maxwell all of Appomattox, and Barry Maxwell of Pamplin; and a sister-in-law, Mildred Maxwell of Clayton, Ga.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Graydon Maxwell, Jr., Forest Maxwell, and Joseph Maxwell; a sister, Marie Maxwell; and a special sister-in-law, Bonnie Mann Maxwell.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, May 14, 2019, at Robinson Funeral Home by the Rev. Melvin Campbell. Burial will follow in Pamplin Community Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home on Monday from 7 until 8:30 p.m.
