Appomattox: Viola Frances Smith Ferguson Mayberry, 95, of Oakville Rd., died Monday, August 21, 2006 in Avante of Lynchburg. She was twice married her first husband was the late Edward Ferguson and her second the late Willis Mayberry.
Born in Appomattox County, October 21, 1910, she was a daughter of the late John Andrew and Sallie Mable Smith. She was a member of Bible Baptist Church, a retired seamstress for Amelia Dress Co., and loved to quilt and garden.
She is survived by six daughters, Alma F. Almond, Dorothy F. Carter, Merlie F. Reynolds all of Appomattox, Shirley Mae Childress and her husband, Pie of Gladstone, Leola F. Henderson and her husband, Alfred of Spout Spring and Virginia F. Saville and her husband, Robert of Lynchburg; a son, Edward H. (Eddie) Ferguson of Appomattox; two brothers, Moses W. (Dick) Smith and his wife, Shirley and Wiley Smith and his wife, Lois all of Spout Spring; three sisters, Colyer Wheatherholtz of Ohio, Vernell Childress and her husband, Calvin of Appomattox and Reva Cruise of Maryland; a step-daughter, Thelma Knight and her husband, Johnny; 13 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren; eight great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Norman Leroy Ferguson; a daughter, Helen Ruth Ferguson; two sons-in-law, George W. Almond and James O. Carter.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am, Wednesday, August 23, 2006 at Bible Baptist Church by the Rev. Robert E. Lee and the Rev. Jerry Childress. Burial will follow in Liberty Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7-8:30 pm at Robinson Funeral Home and other times at the home of Kenneth and Janice Henderson.
