Vincent Anthony Volturo, 72, peacefully passed away at his residence in Appomattox County on Saturday, April 10, 2010.
The son of the late Antonio and Clemintina Famighetti Volturo, he was born May 8th, 1937 in Brooklyn, NY. He lived in his adopted home of Appomattox since 1973.
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife and best friend Judy. They shared 52 beautiful years together. In addition, he is survived by his son, Anthony V. Volturo and his wife Dori, of Indianapolis, IN and a daughter, Donna Marie Watkins of Pawley's Island, SC, his sister, Rufina George of Richmond, VA and a brother, Patrick Volturo of Ft. Pierce, FL and his devoted grandchildren, Andrew, Lucas and Kate Watkins. In addition he is survived by a host of nephews and nieces that will cherish his memory. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Richard Watkins.
Vinny was honored to serve his country in the US Navy. He witnessed Christ in all things and all people and was a founding member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Appomattox. He is best known for his career as a Master Mason and Carpenter having built or restored many homes and buildings in Appomattox and Central Virginia. He was proud to be a part of Lynchburg Virginia's revitalization efforts and enjoyed the brick restoration work for many landmarks and The Old City Cemetery. Vinny's greatest delight was his family and friends and he treasured his time with everyone. To him being surrounded by loved ones was a pretaste of Heaven.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30PM Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at Robinson Funeral Home in Appomattox, (434)352-7111. A celebration of Vinny's life will take place with a Mass of Resurrection at 11:00AM Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, with Father James Gallagher officiating at 2938 Oakleigh Avenue, Appomattox, (434)352-0104.
Many heartfelt thanks to all the wonderful people who assisted Vinny during his long illness. The loving and dedicated staffs of Gentle Shepherd Hospice, Medical Associates of Central Virginia, Central VA Cardiology, Oncology and Pulmonary Associates and to all whose names we unfortunately have omitted but whose professionalism graced and aided him in his valiant efforts to enjoy his life.
