Thurman Lee Wilcox, Sr., 90, of Virginia St., Lynchburg, died Wednesday, December 8, 2010, in Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of the late Gladys Marks Wilcox.
He was born in West Virginia on March 30, 1920 a son of the late Joe and Lizzie Wilcox. Thurman retired after over 20 years service as a staff sergeant in the US Army serving in WW II and the Korean War. He was employed by VDOT Salem District for over 15 years.
He is survived by two sons, Thurman L. (Buddy) Wilcox, Jr. of Appomattox and Arnold Thornhill of Lynchburg; a daughter, Jackie Bishop and husband, J.B. of Spartanburg, SC; a sister, Lila Bradford of Richmond; 19 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and several great-great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by three daughters, Patsy W. Martin, Karen W. Wells, and Rosa T. Williams.
A graveside funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, in Liberty Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Freddy Wells. Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post #104 and VFW #9855 combined honor guard.
The family will receive friends today, Friday, Dec. 10, 2010, at Robinson Funeral Home from 7-8:30 p.m.
