Appomattox: Thomas David (Tom) Ranson, 80, of Morton Lane, died Friday morning, June 29, 2007, in Lynchburg General Hospital following a lengthy illness. Tom and his wife, Elsie Meadows Ranson, shared their life together for 62 years.
Born in Appomattox County, May 15, 1927, he was the son of the late Walter T. and Elsie Dickerson Ranson. Tom was a member of Evergreen United Methodist Church. As a longtime employee of J.E. Jamerson and Sons from where he retired, he was a gifted cabinetmaker, being able to take a piece of wood and turn it into a masterpiece. Music was an important part of his life and for a time he was a member of the Rocks Quartet. His main focus was his family, his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren. Tom also served his country during WW II as a member of the U.S. Navy.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters and one son: Gloria R. Richardson and her husband, Kenneth, of Pamplin, Roland D. (Ronnie) Ranson and his wife, Cindy, of Appomattox and Nancy R.Dawson and her husband, Ronnie, of Appomattox; nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren: Kenny Richardson, his wife, Kim, and their children, Cole and Cassidy; Danny Richardson and his wife Adele; Matt Richardson, his wife, Jamie, and their son, Camden; Rhonda Crowley, her husband, Jim, and their children, Jimmy, Breanna and Kayla; David Ranson and his fiancee, Crystal Ragland; Angie Dillon, her husband, Chris, and their children, Adam, Zach and Nate; Jamee Prewitt and her husband, Jeremy; Jake Dawson, his wife, Laura, and their children, Emma and Julian; and Brooke Dawson; one sister Geraldine R. Mitchell, Appomattox and his beloved dog, Snoot.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm, Tuesday, July 3, 2007, in Memorial United Methodist Church by the Rev. Frank Crawford and the Rev. Bruce Johnson. Burial will be in Evergreen Community Cemetery with military rites accorded by American Legion Post #104
The family will receive friends Monday from 7:00 to 8:30 pm at Robinson Funeral Home and other times at the residence on Morton Lane.
