After a 5 month battle with cancer, Thomas Richard "Tommy" Bass, 64, passed away at his home on Fairway Place, Appomattox surrounded by his family and friends. He leaves behind his wife, Kimberly Hamblin Bass; two sons, Thomas R. Bass, Jr. and wife, Lindsay of Evington, Zachary Arritt of Somerset, NJ; three daughters, Sarah Anne Bass of Blacksburg, Kirsten A. Waldrop and husband, Curtis of Houston, TX and Karmen Arritt of Appomattox; his sister Doris B. Nash and her husband, Ronnie of Appomattox and their son, Todd Nash of Roanoke; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, David and Nancy Hamblin of Botetourt
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Lee and Dorothy Williamson Bass.
Tommy was born and raised in Appomattox. Since childhood, he has enjoyed sports, football, basketball and baseball early on; golf and sport shooting in his later years. His basketball career transitioned to playing "horse" as his family, which he loved deeply, grew.
Tommy also enjoyed serenading family and friends with his guitar.
The family will accept visitors at the residence on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 from noon until 9pm
An outdoor memorial service will be held at the residence on Thursday at 2pm with S. L. Ferguson officiating. Casual attire welcomed.
