Tommy Parsons, 93, of Lynchburg went to sleep in the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, March 25, 2009.
Born in Lynchburg, on January 25, 1916, he was a son of the late James Thomas Parsons and Lillie Mays Parsons Overstreet. On April 17, 1937, he married his wife of 71 years, the late Dorothy Wood Parsons. Tommy was a member of Mountain View Church of God, joined the Civilian Conservation Corp. at the age of 17, and retired from Barker Jennings after 40 years of service.
He is survived by two children, Thomas James Parsons, Jr. and his wife, Priscilla Dawn of Concord and Dorothy Ann Parsons of Monroe; five grandchildren, Sharon Austin, Robert Parsons, Angela Mason, William Parsons and Jeremy Parsons; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Margaret Sublett and Arlene Irby both of Lynchburg.
He was preceded in death by a son, Donald Wayne Parsons; a grandson, James Albert Parsons; one brother and two sisters.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Mar. 28, 2009, at Robinson Funeral Home, Appomattox followed by graveside funeral service at 2:00 p.m. in Liberty Cemetery by the Rev. Glynn Coleman.
