Obituary

Thomas Terrell Martin, Sr., 94, of Appomattox died Thursday, May 16, 2013, in Our Lady of Hope in Richmond. He was the husband of the late Sallie Martin Martin.

Born in Appomattox County, VA, on September 15, 1918, he was a son of the late Lillian Pearl Grow and Thomas Moore Martin. In 1949, he opened Western Auto in Appomattox. He later owned and operated Appomattox TV and Repair and Appomattox Auto Parts until his retirement in 1975. Tommy was a faithful member of Memorial United Methodist Church and a member of the Appomattox Lion's Club where he served as a past president. He was a founding member of Falling River County Club and an avid golfer. In the early 1950's, he was involved in starting a slow pitch softball league in Appomattox.

He is survived by two children, Thomas Terrell Martin, Jr. and wife, Judy of Powhatan and Joan Martin McKenney and husband, Jim of Manakin Sabot; three grandchildren, Thomas Meredith McKenney, Kristen McKenney Sale and husband, Chuck all of Glen Allen, and Julia Martin Everhart and husband, Rob of Mechanicsville; five great grandchildren, Olivia and Allison Everhart, Chase Sale, Kyle McKenney and Caroline Sale; two sisters, Charlene M. Moore of Richmond and Lillian M. Martin and her husband, David of Concord; two sisters-in-law, Evalena M. Martin and Marian D. Martin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Bob, Allen, Charles (Jack) and Abner and five sisters, Dorothy Martin, Eunice Martin, Virginia Drinkard, Lorene Morris, and Jean Tyree.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 20, 2013 at Robinson Funeral Home by the Rev. Russell Cheatham, Rev. Ronnie Morris and Rev. Randolph Martin. Burial will follow in Rebecca Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday one hour before the service.
