Obituary

Thomas Malcolm Franklin, Sr., 81, of Concord, died Friday, January 24, 2014, in Virginia Baptist Hospital. He was twice widowed; his wives were the late Marie Loraine Pinnette Franklin and the late Phyllis Joy Franklin.

Born in Concord, VA, on July 22, 1932, he was a son of the late Marie Lucille Jones and George Frost Franklin. He was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church, a US Air Force veteran, and retired from Babcock and Wilcox with 38 years of service.

He is survived by two daughters, Kaye Franklin of Lynchburg and Donna Franklin of Concord; a son, Thomas (Tom) Franklin, Jr. of Concord; three grandchildren, Jennifer Jones and husband, Ronald, Thomas Malcolm (Mackie) Franklin, III and Miranda Franklin; four great grandchildren, Alexis, Grace, Addison, and Jacob Jones; a sister and brother-in-law, Jane F. and Melvin G. Lyon of Concord; and a sister-in-law, Helen A. Franklin of Concord.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, James Douglas Franklin and George David (Dick) Franklin.

A funeral service will be held 3:30 pm, Monday, January 27, 2014, in Bethlehem United Methodist Church by the Rev. Dan Dibble. Burial will follow in Concord Cemetery with military rites accorded by American Legion Post #104 and VFW #9855 combined honor guard. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service and other times at the home of his daughter, Donna Franklin, 166 Rector Rd., Concord.
