Thomas Craig Evans, 87, passed away at home on July 16, 2026, in San Jose, California. Born on April 12, 1939, in Oakland, California, Thomas lived a life marked by dedication to his family, career, and passions.

Thomas earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Washington. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish and run his own leasing business for three decades. This venture was a true partnership with his beloved wife, Marji Evans. Together, they built not only a successful business but also a legacy of teamwork and commitment to one another.

A proud patriot, Thomas served in the United States Army Reserves for six years as an enlisted Staff Sergeant E-5 in Military Intelligence. His service concluded in 1969, reflecting his steadfast dedication to his country that endured throughout his lifetime.

Thomas was a man of many talents and interests. He had a knack for handyman work and found joy in golf, boating, reading and gardening. Known for his love of storytelling and laughter, he brought warmth and humor to those who knew and loved him. His athletic prowess was recognized in 1997 when he was inducted into the Elma High School Hall of Fame for Track and Field. To this day, he holds records in the 100-yard dash, 220-yard dash, and 880-yard relay won in 1958—a testament to his remarkable abilities which earned him a scholarship to the University of Washington.

Family was central to Thomas’s life. He was married 45 years to his wife Marji Evans who shares the date of his passing. He is survived by his daughter Charlotte McLinden (Paul); granddaughters Lauren DeGolia, Victoria Landrum (Stephen) and Rachel Anderson (Gavin); sister-in-law Karen Evans; niece Sophia Boroditsky (Marc); grandniece Ariana Boroditsky and grandnephew Connor Boroditsky; sister-in-law Mary Hunt; nephew Mark Hunt (Sheela), nieces Kim Nichols and Sarah Norris (Greg). He was predeceased by brother William Evans and daughter Laura DeGolia.

Thomas’s memory will be cherished by all who knew him. May his legacy of love, laughter, and honor bring comfort to those he leaves behind. A Military Honors Graveside Service will be held in Appomattox, VA at the Liberty Baptist Cemetery on October 25, 2026.
