Theodore LeVonn Mitchell, 73, of Appomattox passed away unexpectedly from heart complications on Friday, October 30, 2009, in Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Roberta Harvey Mitchell.
Born in Lynchburg, on September 15, 1936, he was the son of the late Vernell and Pearl Burnett Mitchell. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church and a member of the adult choir. Ted was a graduate of Appomattox County High School and the Lynchburg Foundry Apprentice School. He was employed by the Lynchburg Foundry from 1955- 2001, serving as a pattern maker and then as superintendent of the pattern shop until his retirement. Ted enjoyed hunting, gardening, golfing, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by a daughter, Katherine M. Vaughan and husband Joe; two sons, Freddy Mitchell and wife Jane and Kevin Mitchell and Leigh; six grandchildren, Brandon Vaughan and wife Julia, Erin Vaughan, Meghan Mitchell, Jaymie Mitchell, Ethan Mitchell and Olivia Mitchell; a great-granddaughter, Chloe Vaughan; a brother, C. Freddy Mitchell and wife Betsy; a sister, Betty F. Mitchell; and god-daughter, Lisa Slayton and husband Keith.
Funeral service will be held on 3:00 pm, Sunday, November 1, 2009, in Liberty Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today (Saturday) at funeral home from 3:00 – 5:00 pm and other times at the residence.
