Mrs. Thelma Bryant Franklin, 79, of Old Courthouse Road, Appomattox, died at her residence Wednesday, morning April 20, 2011. She was the loving wife of James W. Franklin, Sr.
Born in Appomattox County, on June 30, 1931, she was a daughter of the late Dallas Clifton and Maggie Ferguson Bryant. She was the owner and operator of Thelma's Beauty Shop for over 40 years. Thelma was a member of New Hope Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir, chairperson of the hospitality committee, and a G. A. leader for many years; and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
In addition to her husband she is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Alice Faye and James Burks of Vera; two brothers, Robert L. Bryant and wife, Dale and Lloyd M. Bryant and wife, Becky both of Vera; two daughters-in-law; Neville T. Franklin of Vera and Lisa D. Franklin of Appomattox; eight grandchildren, Belinda F. Moore and Raymond, Jamie Franklin and Teresa, Heather Millner, Chad Franklin and Melinda, Roxanne Callahan and Chris, Toni Ranson and Brandon, J. B. Burks and Megan, and Matt Burks; 10 great grandchildren, Shayla Woods, Dana Woods, Katlyn Millner, Dawn Garrett, Kirsten Franklin, Jack Franklin, Tyler Franklin, Ashton Callahan, Abigail Ranson, Ryan Funk and awaiting the arrival of great granddaughter, Alexi Emerson Burks.
She was preceded in death by two sons, James W. Franklin, Jr. and Kenneth Lee Franklin; three brothers, Charlie, Alfred and Willie Bryant; and two sisters, Gladys Ferguson and Hattie Ferguson.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 23, 2011, at New Hope Baptist Church by the Rev. Ronnie Rogers with burial following in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home today, Friday, April 22, 2011, from 7-8:30 p.m. and other times at the residence.
