Thelbert LeGrand Stratton, 73, affectionately known as "Papa Bert", of Red House Rd., Appomattox, Va., died Tuesday, May 24, 2016, in Grand Strand Medical Center, Myrtle Beach, S. C. He was the loving husband of Faye Honeycutt Stratton for 46years.
Born in Lynchburg, Va., on February 5, 1943, he was a son of the late Mary Lucy Taylor and Bert Douglas Stratton. He graduated Appomattox High School in 1961, served his country in the US Army, and after 32 years retired as a supervisor with Babcock and Wilcox. He was a member of Brunswick Island Baptist Church, Holden Beach, N. C. and a charter member of the Appomattox Moose Lodge #975. Thelbert loved costal living and was an avid pier fisherman.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Robin L. Wooten and husband, Greg, of Spout Spring and Bob Stratton and wife, Stacey, of Appomattox ; four grandchildren, Erika Wooten, Adam Wooten, Holden LeGrand Stratton, and Valentine Harris; three brothers and their wives, Harold T. and Virginia Stratton, John H. (Jack) and Jean Stratton, and William A. (Bill) and Arlene Stratton, all of Appomattox; a sister, Jean S. Maxey of Lynchburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Steven LeGrand Stratton and a brother, James D. (Jimmy) Stratton.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, May 28, 2016, at Robinson Funeral Home by Dr. Rudy Ramphal with burial following in Liberty Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 7-8:30 pm and other times at the residence.
