Tandy Watts Harris, Sr., 81 of Old Evergreen Road, Appomattox, went to be with the Lord on Friday November 20, 2015. Tandy was born on April 23, 1934 and was the second son of the late Anna Ferguson and Tandy Douglas Harris.
Tandy leaves behind his devoted wife and bride of 58 years, Elna Freeman Harris; seven children and their spouses, Tandy Jr. and Donna Harris, Jerry and Jill Harris, Terry and Mary Harris, Ricky and Sharon Harris, Larry and Sandra Harris, Lenny and Lindsay Harris and Pamela Harris; eleven grandchildren, T J Harris, Aaron Harris, Jena H. Mitchell, Jordan Harris, Benjamin Harris, Whitney Harris, Tandy Ross Harris, Caroline Harris, Jacob Harris, Anna Harris and Colt Childress; eight great-grandchildren, Jeremiah Harris, Brooklyn Harris, Eli Harris, Madden Harris, Dilinger Harris, Kellyn Harris, Lynden Harris and Cullen Harris; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Anna H. Ferguson, Nellie H. Martin, and Juanita and Ashby Milstead; six brothers and sisters-in-law, Lewis and Marilyn Harris, Keith and Nancy Harris, John (Pete) and Brenda Harris, Clyde and Mary Harris, MacArthur Harris and Ernest and Lucy Harris; a brother-in-law, Bruce Hackett and sister-in-law and husband, Linda and Albert Peery.
He was preceded in death by six sisters, Frances Douglas Harris, Mary Ocie Harris, Emily Alice Harris, Millie H. Sieglitz, Ruby H. Barnes, and Elizabeth H. Hackett and two brothers, William Walker (Brown) Harris and Norman Burge (Cracker) Harris.
Tandy served honorably in the United States Navy from 1954-1958. For 22 years Tandy worked as a machinist at Thomasville Furniture in Appomattox retiring in 1996. He was also instrumental in the startup of Harris Machine Shop and worked there as a machinist following retirement. He was a dedicated and committed member of Evergreen United Methodist Church where for many years he was a member of the United Methodist Men's group and served as the group's secretary. He was a loving and devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He had a servant's heart always concerned about the needs of his family and others in the community.
The family will receive friends from 4-6:00p.m. Sunday November 22, 2015 at Robinson Funeral Home and other times at the residence of his son, Ricky, 5155 Old Evergreen Road, Appomattox.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday November 23, 2015 at the Evergreen United Methodist Church officiated by the Rev. Herndon Jeffreys. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
