Thomas Raymond (T. R.) Martin, Jr., 91, loving daddy and Papa T, of Oakville Rd., Appomattox, died Thursday, December 2, 2010 at his residence. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 63 years, Nannie Morris Martin.

Born in Appomattox County, Virginia, on May 5, 1919, he was a son of the late Thomas Raymond Martin, Sr. and the late Ruth Drinkard Martin. T. R. was a life long member of Trinity United Methodist Church where he was a trustee, a member of the Administrative Board, Sunday school teacher, youth director, chairman of the building committee, and a member of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class. He retired from the Appomattox Hardware and was a farmer.

He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Faye M. and Lyle N. Garrette of Amherst and Janet M. and Tommy Wilhoit of Appomattox; a sister, Belle R. Megginson of Appomattox; five grandchildren, Steve Garrette, Sandra Burks and husband, Ben, Tom Garrette and wife, Kate, Dustin Wilhoit and wife, Crystal, and Carla Keenan and husband, Jonathan; eight great-grandchildren, Justin Garrette, Whitney Garrette, Ross Garrette, Jennifer Burks, Garret Burks, Alli Burks, Skylar Wilhoit, and Mannix Wilhoit; four sisters-in-law, Virginia Martin, Lorene Morris, Josephine Morris, and Sallie Martin and caregivers, Liz Fitch, Rosa Reid, Annie Bailey, and Alice Powell, his hospice nurse.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, T. Russell Martin and Carl E. Martin.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m., Saturday, December 4, 2010, in Trinity United Methodist Church by the Rev. Robert Thorne. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home today, Friday, Dec. 3, from 7-8:30 p.m.
