Sylvia Merchant Butler, 74, of Walkers Ford Road, Concord, died Friday March 22, 2019. She was the loving wife of Carroll Bruce Butler.

Born in Richmond, January 5, 1945, she was a daughter of the late Dot Tillman and E. Howard Merchant. Sylvia was a member of Bible Baptist Church where she served as organist and sang in the choir.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children, Cathy Wood and husband, Chuck, Darrell Bruce Butler both of Powhatan, and Richard Butler and wife, Mandie of Concord; two brothers, Charles Merchant, and Michael Merchant; one sister, Mary Linda Edwards all of Powhatan; four grandchildren, Zachary Wood, CJ Butler, Amy Butler, and Levi Butler.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Monday, March 25, 2019 at Bible Baptist Church with Rev. Jonathan Watson, Rev. Jerry Boyce, and Rev. Robert E. Lee Jr., officiating. Burial will be held at 2 p.m., in Powhatan Community Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Bible Baptist Church and other times at the residence.
