Steven Braxton Mitchell, 53, of Cawthorne St., Appomattox, died Tuesday, February 4, 2014, at his residence. Born in Lynchburg, VA on March 16, 1960, he was a son of Rosalia Wright Mitchell of Appomattox and the late Charles (Charlie) Braxton Mitchell.
Steve was a member of Liberty Baptist Church. He worked for Thomasville Furniture Company and was presently employed by Hermle Clock in Amherst. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of Evergreen Hunt Club. Steve was an avid bowler and had bowled four perfect games.
In addition to his mother he is survived by his brother, Jerry Monroe Mitchell of Appomattox; a sister, Kristie M. Cocks and husband, Jeff of Brookneal; a niece, Summer Rae Mitchell; two nephews, Phillip Braxton Cocks and Matthew Drake Cocks; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Lisa Doss Mitchell.
A graveside funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 7, 2014, in Liberty Cemetery by the Rev. Dr. Rusty Small. The family will receive friends at the residence.
In lieu of flowers the family will requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, 1030 Oakville Rd., Appomattox, VA 24522.
