Spencer Albert Coleman, 84, of Pamplin, passed away Friday, October 6, 2017, at his home. He was born in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, February 9, 1933, and was the loving husband of Jane Chalkley Coleman for 41 years. He was the son of the late Horae and Jeanette Coleman.

He is survived by his three sons; Spencer A. Coleman, Jr., and wife, Sabrina of Portsmouth, VA, Lawrence W. Coleman and wife, Cindy of Norfolk, and W. Randolph Coleman of Portsmouth; five granddaughters, Sierra Blake and husband, Nathan of Virginia Beach; Mary Elizabeth Coleman of New York City; Skylar Bucher and husband Andrew of Chesapeake; Sarah Grace Coleman of Norfolk and Meredith Lawrence Coleman of Norfolk; one brother, Edward H. Coleman and wife ,Terry of Pine Level, NC; two great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and close friends.

He is preceded in death by two brothers, Horace W. Coleman, Jr., and James Herbert Coleman and one sister, Jo Anne Owen.

He was a devoted member of St. Anne's Episcopal Church, Appomattox, having served on the vestry and on the Executive Board of the Diocese of Southern Virginia.

He retired in 1995 to Pamplin to the family farm after 40 years in banking. He was former president of the Appomattox Chamber of Commerce and always a volunteer in numerous civic organizations. He served his country in the navy during the Korean conflict.

A private service for the family and close friends will be held at St. Anne's, Saturday, October 14, 2017. The family would like to invite everyone to the farm for a celebration of his life that afternoon at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends at the residence at any time this week.
