Shirley Viar Tanner, 78, of Stonewall Road, Concord, died Friday afternoon September 28, 2012 at Babcock Manor. She was the wife of R.H. (Hugh) Tanner.
Shirley was born in Gladys, Campbell County, VA on December 23, 1933 a daughter of the late Alma Virginia Maddox and Jerry Baker Viar. She was a member of Hebron Baptist Church and a homemaker.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons and their wives, Richard Steven (Steve) Tanner and Patricia, Gary Wayne Tanner and Angie all of Concord; four grandchildren, Gina T. Wright, Katie T. Moffitt and Matt, Corie T. Pugh and Kirk, Ashley Wright; three great-grandchildren, Jaden and Tye Robertson, Kierstin Alkire; two brothers, Raymond Viar and wife, Virginia, James Wesley Viar all of Richmond; two sisters, Beatrice Vaden and husband, J.B. of Greensboro, NC, Gracie Scammahorn of Lynchburg; two sister-in-laws, Aurea M. Viar of Allenstown, NH and Peggy S. Viar of Lynchburg and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death three brothers, Aubrey, John B. (Paul) and Clarence and two sisters, Ruth Overstreet and Helen Lipscomb.
Funeral service will be held on Monday October 1, 2012 from Hebron Baptist Church at 11:00 AM officiated by the Rev. Tom Walker. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-6:30 PM on Sunday September 30, 2012 and other times at the residence.
