Obituary

Shirley Hodges Garrett, 75, of Richmond Highway, Evergreen, died Thursday March 17, 2011 at her residence. For 54 years, she was the loving wife of David T. Garrett, Sr.

Born in Appomattox Co., March 22, 1935, she was a daughter of the late Ruby Mae Hodges and Thomas Jefferson Hodges. Shirley was a member of Evergreen Baptist Church and was active in the church W.M.U., choir and nursery for many years.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Brenda G. and Scott Harris of Jacksonville, FL; four sons and daughters-in-law, David T. Jr., and Stacy Garrett of Evergreen, Timothy W. and Allison Garrett, Richard Todd and Dana Garrett, and Matthew D. and Angela Garrett, all of Appomattox; a brother and sister-in-law, Lawrence and Ann Hodges, of Pamplin; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Carrie Morris, of Richmond, Elizabeth Mobley, of Appomattox, and Ann and David Phillips, of Evergreen; nine grandchildren, Jessica, Aaron, Patricia, Ashley, Jonathan, Dylan, Joey, Carter, and Evan; three great-grandchildren, Camden, Madison and Ace; a sister-in-law, Betty Hodges; and a son-in-law, Eddie Pugh.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Rita G. Pugh and a brother, William (Bill) T. Hodges.

A funeral service will be held 4:00 PM, Sunday, March 20, 2011, in Evergreen Baptist Church, by Dr. Chris King, Rev. Robert Wilson and the Rev. Ron Nickell with burial to follow in Evergreen Cemetery.

The family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Saturday, March 19, 2011 in Evergreen Baptist Church, and other times at her residence.
