Shirley Ferguson Childress, 82, of Anderson Highway, Gladstone went to be with her heavenly father Friday, September 25, 2015 at Appomattox Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was the wife of the late Jeremiah "Pie" R. Childress.
Born in Appomattox County, April 23, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Viola F. Mayberry and Edward Ferguson. Shirley attended Maple Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church, Wingina. She was a seamstress with the Appomattox Garment Company for over 25 years. Shirley will always be remembered by her friends and family with her "one of a kind personality and her stylish hair and dress."
She is survived by her two sons, Paul Leroy (Duck) Cyrus Jr and wife, Teresa, Rev. Jerry Allen (Stalk) Childress and wife, Sue all of Appomattox; one brother, Eddie Ferguson of Appomattox; four sisters, Alma Almond, Merle Reynolds both of Appomattox, Leola "Tootsie" Henderson of Concord and Virginia Saville of Lynchburg; three grandchildren, Stacey Cyrus whom she considered her "Baby" and joy of her life, Jeremie Childress and wife, Faith and Christy Cyrus; two great-grandchildren, Colby Taylor and Camdyn Taylor; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Dot Carter.
Funeral Services will be held 2 p.m., Sunday, September 27, 2015 at Robinson Funeral Home with the Rev. Harold Powers and Billy Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the Burks Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Saturday, September 26, 2015 at Robinson Funeral Home and other times at her residence and Stacey's residence.
