Shelby Jean Thompson Harper, 75, of Lynchburg, died Tuesday, September 3, 2013, in Liberty Ridge Health and Rehabilitation.
Born in Newport News, VA, on January 18, 1938, she was a daughter of the late Charlie Russell (Shorty) Thompson and Florence Oneeda Carson Thompson Martin. Shelby was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
She is survived by two sons, Jimmy Russell Harper of Arlington and Steven Harper and wife, Michelle of Ashburn; two daughters, Janet Schafer and husband, Ed of Alexandria and Sharon Poach and husband, David of Burke; seven grandchildren, Alyxis, Caitlyn, Taylor, and Makayla Harper, Tigh Kelly, David Poach, and Danielle White; two brothers, C. R. (Ronnie) Thompson of Rustburg and his children, Russ Thompson, Savannah Thompson Evans and husband, Josiah, and Chandler Thompson and friend, Cody Lawhorn and Ricky Thompson and wife, Nancy of Lynchburg and their children, Stan Pearson and his son, Matthew, David Pearson, and LeAnne Grassano and husband, Jamie and her daughter, Kari Hamlet.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Lula Carter and Cynthia Robinson for their care of Shelby.
The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home on Thursday, September 5, 2013, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
A funeral service will be held 11:30 a.m., Friday, September 6, 2013, in Calvary Baptist Church, Concord, by the Rev. Frank Casper and Pastor Sung Yoo with burial following in the church cemetery.
