Obituary

Shelby Williams Bryant Ponton, 92, formerly of Cullen, died Friday, March 22, 2024.  She was twice widowed; her first husband was the late Basil Harding Bryant and her second husband Joseph Estes Ponton.

Born in Pamplin, June 22, 1931, she was a daughter of the late Bettie Ferguson Williams and Dannie Berle Williams.  Shelby was a member of Spring Creek Baptist Church, where she worked with the youth group and in the nursery.  She worked as a seamstress at Amelia Dress Company and Courtland Manufacturing.  Shelby was also a childcare provider to many in her community.

She is survived by four daughters, Betty Richardson and husband, David of Pamplin, Wanda Beagle and husband, Wayne of Farmville, Bonnie Sorrells of Forest and Lisa Womack and husband, Jerry of Lynchburg; 20 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her four brothers; four sisters; and one grandson, Matthew Peery.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at Spring Creek Baptist Church with Pastor Dennis Smith and Pastor Paul McLinden officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m., Monday, March 25, 2024, at Robinson Funeral Home in Appomattox.
