Obituary

Sharon Elizabeth Walker went to be with our Lord on February 29, 2024.   She was 76 years old.

Sharon was born on December 19, 1947, in Asheville, North Carolina, to William and Louise Kidwell.  She was raised in the Atlanta, Georgia, area. After high school, Sharon attended Georgia State University, where she studied journalism.

Over the years, Sharon worked in various positions as a civilian in the United States Army as a journalist and editor. She was a gifted writer who excelled in her career.

Following her retirement, Sharon moved to the Appomattox area to fulfill a long-held dream of owning land and being closer to nature. She believed God led her there, and she enjoyed her home and property tremendously, while becoming a friend to many.

Later in life, Sharon served as an advocate for CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates). She had a soft heart and was eager to serve. She believed every child experiencing difficult and challenging circumstances deserves an advocate who is there to speak up and to pursue the child's best interests.

Sharon's compassion also led her to support many organizations focused on the welfare of abused and neglected animals.  She cared deeply for all of God's creatures (her friends may have thought she was taking things too far when she fretted over killing a spider). It was one of her defining qualities. Throughout her life, she touched the lives of countless individuals with her compassion for people, children and animals.

Sharon will be remembered as a kind-hearted person with a good sense of humor. She spread warmth and kindness to all whose lives intersected with hers. She lived a life characterized by patience, unwavering compassion, generosity, and dedication to family, friends, and the community. Sharon will be profoundly missed.

Sharon is preceded in death by her parents and her late husband, Harold S. Walker, III. She is survived by her children, Stephanie (Gregg) Brown and Michael (Stephanie) Evenson; grandsons Patrick (Hannah), Chase, Nicholas (Theresa), Samuel, Jackson and Maxwell; three great-granddaughters (Caroline, Joanna and Lilly); her brothers, Hal (Shirley) Kidwell and Michael (Natisha) Kidwell; and many other extended family.

Sharon was a member of the Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Concord, Virginia. A memorial service will be held there to honor and celebrate Sharon's life on March 9, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to CASA of Central Virginia in memory of Sharon.  www.cvcasa.org/donate

Though her physical presence may be gone, Sharon's spirit will live on eternally in the hearts and memories of all who knew and loved her. The family is heartened by her strong Christian faith and the assured knowledge that she is with her Lord.

Forever in our hearts, Sharon will be remembered with love, admiration, and gratitude.
