On Sept 21, 2008 God called his faithful servant Sarah (67) to leave her home in Concord to be with Jesus and her friends who have passed away.
She was born at home in Avon, VA on April 24, 1941 to Leland Foster Brown and Bertie Miller Brown. She leaves behind her husband James Evans Henderson, daughter Donia Lee Henderson of Broomfield CO, and son James Leland Henderson of Concord. Other family that will miss her are her sister, Mary Anna Fox of Richmond and brothers, Junior Brown (Doris) of Staunton and Robert Brown of New Castle.
Sarah has lived a life faithful to the call of Jesus. Her many accomplishments include working in the Laubach Literary program while at Lynchburg College, being a tireless and faithful member of the Church of the Covenant. There she supported Kum Ba Yah, the Lodge of the Fisherman, New Land jobs, the Festival Center and the Chrysalis Center. Sarah taught fourth and fifth grade at Garland Rhodes and Dearington. As a young mother she was a Brownie Scout leader, a piano teacher, and was honored by a lifetime membership in the Virginia Congress of Parents and Teachers. Sarah was a strong positive influence on many young people throughout her life.
One of Sarah's joys was making jams and jellies from her berry gardens. She leaves a supply for her family to enjoy for years. Sarah had a lifelong interest in art and poetry. She has penned a number of poems for friends and family and has produced art for all the walls in the house.
In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to the Church of the Covenant, 4415 Boonsboro Rd., Lynchburg, VA 24503, in Sarah's honor. If you wish to designate a specific mission, state the Festival Center, the Chrysalis Center, or the church.
A memorial service for Sarah will be held at Church of the Covenant, 4415 Boonsboro Rd., Lynchburg at 2pm, Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008, followed by a reception at the Lodge of the Fisherman.
