Sandra O'Brien (Mimi) Mitchell, 74, of Morningside Dr., Appomattox, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 21, 2013 in Fairmont Crossing Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was the wife of the late Maymond Lewis Mitchell, Sr.
Sandra was born on June 8, 1938, in Appomattox, the daughter of the late Jennings L. O'Brien and Grace Wooten Cunningham. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church where she was pianist for 17 years. She attended New Concord Presbyterian Church serving as choir director and church pianist. She also taught piano lessons.
She is survived by two daughters, Rhonda M. Banton and Kathryn A. Mitchell; a son, Maymond L. (Mitch) Mitchell, Jr. and his wife, Gina; a brother, Robert C. (Bobby) O'Brien all of Appomattox; eight grandchildren, Adam, Jason, and Allison Mitchell, Charlotte and Matthew Rogers, Brett Guill, Tori Banton and Philip Radcliffe, April and Aaron Godsey, Heather Banton; and great grandchildren, Kloie, Holly and Camri Rogers, Lily Godsey, and Lucas and Zoe Radcliffe.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 pm, on Sunday, February 24, 2013, in Liberty Cemetery by the Rev. Dr. Rusty Small.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Appomattox Volunteer Rescue Squad, PO Box 57, Appomattox, VA.
