Sandra Knowles Landry, 70, of Appomattox, VA, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Easter Sunday morning, April 5, 2026, at 12:23 am, surrounded by dear friends and family.
Sandra was born in Atlanta, GA, on March 12, 1956, and is survived by her husband of 36 years, Mark; her daughter, Alexis Marsh (Austin); sister-in-law, Clara “Cookie” Knowles; and niece, Barbara Fuller.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mamie Knowles; her father, Nathan Knowles; and her brother, John Burt Knowles.
Sandra loved music and teaching, and was a graduate of Truett-McConnell College, William Carey University, and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, where she earned a Master’s in Music in Piano Pedagogy. Sandra was a private piano teacher for 50 years and taught music in numerous schools and academies throughout her life.
She met her husband, Mark, the love of her life, while in seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas, and they married and began their wonderful life together. They lived in Ft. Worth, then Sioux Falls, SD, where their precious daughter, Alexis Kate, came into their lives, and finally in Appomattox, where Mark served as Music Minister and Sandra served as Church Pianist and Music Associate for 23 years at Liberty Baptist Church.
Sandra was involved in teaching and directing drama through numerous homeschool co-ops for over 25 years. When they retired in 2021, she and Mark began a drama ministry, The Lighthouse Drama Players, in Appomattox.
Those who know Sandra know that one of the things she loved most was Summer Music Camp. She loved teaching children about Jesus, the arts, and music, and through over 25 years of music camp, she touched the lives of over a thousand children.
More than anything, Sandra loved the Lord and was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ from the time she was a little girl. Her main ambition in life was to honor God, love and serve her family, and do all she could to be a faithful witness for Jesus. Her legacy will live on through the lives of all the people she taught, worked with, prayed with, and touched in some way throughout her life. She always strove to live out the words of Matthew 5:16, “Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your God in heaven”
We know that she is safe in the arms of Jesus and is finally at peace.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.”
A funeral will be held at 2 pm, Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at Liberty Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Ishmael LaBiosa and John Caldwell. A committal ceremony will follow in Liberty Cemetery by Rev. Dr. Rusty Small.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm, Monday, April 6, 2026, at Liberty Baptist Church.
