Samuel William Inge
Samuel William Inge, 82, died Thursday, September 11, 2008. Born, October 19, 1925 on the Inge Family Farm near Concord, VA, he was the youngest son of the late Charlie Hudson Inge, Sr. and Alice Rachel Martin Inge. He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Virginia Coleman Inge (Polly).
Sam was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army 2nd Ranger Battalion. During his tour of duty, he saw combat action in the European theater.
He was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Appomattox, serving many years as Administrative Board Chairman; and a devoted member of the Board of Directors of the Concord Volunteer Fire Department. He retired in 1986 from Lynchburg Foundry where he was Payroll Supervisor for 36 years. In the years following his retirement, he enjoyed taking care of the family farm and helping his many friends, neighbors and family members.
In addition to his wife, Sam is survived by one daughter, Sandra Inge Wolanski (Gene), and two sons, C. Dwight Inge (Linda) and David C. Inge (Sharon). He was "Pop" to seven dear grandchildren, Christopher D. Inge (Kelcey), Geoffrey I. Wolanski, Brian P. Wolanski (Emily), C. Brandon Inge (Shani), S. Jason Inge, Ann Wolanski Williams (Eddie), and Lisa Gayle Tice; and four precious great-grandsons, Sam Coleman, Tyler and Chase Inge. Also surviving are two brothers-in-law, J. Ralph Coleman (Betsy Lee) and Kenneth E. Coleman (Dot);one sister-in-law, Cleo R. Coleman; and his three nephews, Earl M. Inge (Joan), Gerald W. Inge (Virginia) and Ronald L. Inge (Daphne); and many other special family and friends.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Elizabeth Inge Wheeler Pugh; and two brothers, Charlie H. Inge, Jr. and Roy D. Inge.
The family expresses sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff at Medical Care Center for the care and devotion they showed all of us during the past months.
A funeral service will be held 3:00 PM, Sunday September 14, 2008 at Trinity United Methodist Church by the Rev Bob Thorne and the Rev. Ron Davidson. Burial will follow in Rebecca cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral from 6:00 until 7:30 PM tonight, (Saturday), and other times at the residence.
