Obituary

Samuel Bernard Doss, Jr., 83, passed on to his Heavenly Father on Friday, January 15, 2010. He was born in Appomattox County on December 4, 1926 to the late Samuel and Daisy Doss. He was preceded in death by brothers Gordon and David, and a sister Mary Jane.
Sam was a faithful employee of CSX Railways for 41 years. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Appomattox. Sam served as a Seaman First Class in the US Navy during WWII and was stationed in the South Pacific on the USS Pocomoke. He was an active member of the Appomattox Masonic Lodge # 301 and was also active in the Appomattox Chapter # 10 Eastern Star and served in various positions including Worthy Patron and Sentinel.
Sam is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Virginia Guill Doss. He is also survived by three daughters; Mary and husband, Tollie Rich of Cape Coral,FL; Ellen and husband Michael McCormick of Appomattox, and Jayne and husband John Crocker of Merritt Island, FL; five grandchildren, Dustin Rich of Cape Coral,FL; Ashley and husband Jason Williams of Appomattox, Joey McCormick of Appomattox, Courtney Crocker and Sam Crocker of Merritt Island, FL. He is also survived by two brothers, Charles and wife Lou Doss of Detroit, MI; and James and wife Mary Doss of Appomattox; five sisters, Helen Burnette of Livonia, MI; Shirley Ferguson, Peggy Ayers, Lucy and husband Norman Gagneur and Pat Davidson all of Appomattox; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at Liberty Baptist Church, 1709 Church Street, Appomattox, by the Rev. Rusty Small and Dr. Robert Alderman.
A Masonic Service will be held at 6:30pm Monday, January 18, 2010, at Robinson Funeral Home with the visitation to follow until 8:30pm.
