Concord: Samuel Lacy Crews, 80, of Phoebe Pond Rd., died November 5, 2007 in the Avanté of Lynchburg. He was the husband of Dorothy Louise Peck Crews.
Born in Halifax County, March 22, 1927, he was a son of the late Richard Thomas and Betsy Florence Lane Crews. For 23 years, Sam was a groundskeeper for the Appomattox County High School. He served in the US Marine Corps during WW II.
In addition to his wife he is survived by three sons, Richard Lewis Crews and his wife, Jennifer Lee of Appomattox; Thomas Samuel Crews of Concord and William Lee Crews and his wife, Stephanie of Butler, Missouri; a daughter, Frances Crews Bobbey and her husband, Jon of Evington; eight grandchildren, Jessica Lee Crews, Tori Samantha Crews, Samuel David Bobbey, Katherine Nicole Bobbey, Kayla Lee Crews, Amber Marie Crews, Zander Thomas Samuel Crews, Delani Virginia Lynn Crews; and two sisters, Agnes Haith of Mebane, NC and Norma Lee Crews of Chase City.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Nathan and Ira Crews and five sisters, Florence, Callie, Mary, Janie, and Annie.
A memorial service will be held 7:00 pm, Thursday, November 8, 2007 at Robinson Funeral Home by the Rev. Randall Fish.
