Ruth McSwain Hamrick May, 91, of 485 Winterberry Rd., Danville and formerly of Red House, died Tuesday, May 3, 2005 at the residence of her niece, where she had made her home for several years. She was the wife of the late Edgar Paul May.
Born in Forest City, North Carolina, February 1, 1914, she was a daughter of the late David and Minnie McDaniel McSwain. Ruth was a member of Providence Baptist Church, attended Mars Hill College in Asheville, NC and during World War II worked at the Portsmouth Naval Yard. For most of her life she was a homemaker and loved fishing.
She is survived by a sister, Lois McSwain May of Red House; a niece, Nancy May Dalton and her husband, Pete of Danville; a great niece, April Dalton of Mooresville, NC and her caregiver, Debbie Crawford.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Willie McSwain.
Funeral services will be held 5:00 PM, Thursday, May 5, 2005 at Robinson Funeral Home by the Rev. John Jackson and the Rev. Reggie Warren. Burial will follow in Providence Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 5-7 PM.
