Royal "Buddy" Wells, Jr., 73, of Appomattox, died Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at his residence. He was the loving husband of Dale Drinkard Wells for 53 years.

Born in Lynchburg, September 11, 1944, he was a son of the late Louise Phelps and Roy W. Wells, Sr. Buddy was a member of Mt. Comfort United Methodist Church. He started his career at Lynchburg Foundry and then moved to Simplimatic Engineering. In 1988 he started Wells Fabrication and Welding where he served as owner and president. Buddy enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming and spending time with family.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Renee W. Scott and husband, Mark of Gladstone and Anita Reed of TN; five grandchildren, Daniel Scott of Gladstone, Christopher Scott of Richmond, Justin Scott and wife, Ashley, Ashley Rothgeb and Alex Rothgeb all of Appomattox; three great-grandchildren, Ainsleigh and Kentleigh Abbitt and Harper Scott; three sisters, Daphine Moore and husband, Lewis, Loretta Drinkard and husband, EB and Wanda Powell and husband, Maynard; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sheila W. Scruggs and one brother, Wayne L. Wells.

A funeral service will be held 3 p.m., Sunday, May 27, 2018 at Mt. Comfort United Methodist Church with Rev. Larry Mann officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service and other times at the residence, 8504 Oakville Road, Appomattox.
